7 Best Board Games to Bring the Entire Family Together
This is our list of the 7 Best Board Games to Bring the Entire Family Together! We encourage our kids to start playing interactive mind games at a very young age. As young as three, they begin to play as a partner with mom or dad. Then, they move up to partner with a sibling until they start to play on their own. Around 5-6 years, our kids started playing as their own player on most of the games. They learn to sit quietly, take turns, think strategically, understand numbers and follow directions. Family game nights are a weekly occurrence at our house and help keep the kids and parents away from screens. It is a big deal to be the one to “pick the game” on family game night. This is a privilege often given for good behavior or good grades.
Here are the seven best interactive games that you can play with your family.
A game for all ages, from 3 to adult, our family loves this game. Spot it is perfect for squeezing in some family time on a busy school night or a night when mom and dad just don’t have the energy for an everlasting game of Monopoly.
We love this game. Rummikub is a classic, good for math and number learning. Fun, easy to learn, players need to think, plan ahead and form new runs and groups. Our 6 year old just started to play as her own player, no more playing on daddy’s team for her. The competition is fierce now.
This is my go-to game to buy as a gift. We love sequence game as a family and love to share it with others. Next time you are invited to someone’s home and you are not sure what to take, forgo the bottle of wine and take this game instead!. It is a fun game for players who like to play in teams. It is strictly a game of chance. There is little skill necessary, children as young as seven could play it easily. It does not involve any reading skills. Perfect for game night.
This is a newer game for our family introduced when our daughter received as a gift. Stare is so different from other games we have played. Stare at images, ask questions…a completely social and interactive game.
Qwirkle is mom’s favorite. My kids know if it’s mom’s night to choose because we are playing Qwirkle. It is a great game of strategy that doesn’t need batteries and doesn’t make any noise! It’s a game where you will continue to get better and better the more you play as you develop new ways of thinking and fine tune your strategy. Definitely a family classic in the making.
Blockus is a game that keeps you thinking. It works best with four players. Kids under 7 will have to play on a team with mom, dad or a sibling as the strategy and puzzles can be difficult. Another game of strategy where you get better as you play.
Catan is a challenging board game where you build and trade your way to success. It’s like a mix between Monopoly & Risk, so expect LOTS of competition & family disputes (haha, just like monopoly!). At first, it may seem overwhelming as there are a lot of instructions. The more you play the more you will get the hang of it. This is not a quick playing game. When we play, we set aside a good hour and a half to play a full game. Little ones play on a team with a brother or sister. Your family will love it!
